Trezeguet: Mbappe must prove himself at Monaco
Wednesday, 21 June 2017The 18-year-old is one of the hottest properties in world football at the moment and has been tipped to make the move to Real Madrid to potentially replace Cristiano Ronaldo, but he has been told to stay patient by his compatriot...
Kylian Mbappe should continue his development at Monaco and prove himself in Monte Carlo before making a big-money move, according to former France centre-forward, David Trezeguet.
The French starlet has fired his side to the Ligue 1 title this campaign and also helped them reach the Champions League semi-final, with a string of outstanding performances in the knockout stages of that competition making Europe stand and take notice. Such showings meant it was quick for elite sides to register their interest in a transfer, but not everyone believes he needs to make a move yet.
"He is aware of his qualities, he is aware he is just 18 years old so he has a good opportunity at Monaco because it is a beautiful city, and a world-class academy," Trezeguet told reporters at a recent charity match.
"In the semi-final [of the Champions League], we played Monaco with Juventus, and we knew he is a player with a great future and that's the most important thing."
The former Old Lady striker did later insist that he respected the decision of the youngster and that any financial aspects needed to be taken into account, but that he hoped Mbappe would stay in Monte Carlo for the time being.
"Of course, the economic part is important but I think with time things happen naturally.
"I think he still has to prove his qualities with Monaco, even if he will have the last word."
