Madrid chairman: Mbappe is still a Monaco player
Thuesday, 20 June 2017The French starlet has been linked with a move to a number of elite sides this summer with Los Blancos leading the pack, but it appears no concrete bid has been made as of yet...
Real Madrid chairman Florentino Perez has claimed that although the Spanish giants are monitoring Kylian Mbappe closely, he still remains contracted to AS Monaco for the moment.
The 18-year-old has burst on to the footballing map this campaign with some dazzling performances, particularly in the Champions League, and it didn't take long for the likes of Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, and Arsenal to register their interest in a transfer. He has reportedly told his current club that his future lies in the Spanish capital, but Perez remained tight-lipped when speaking to the media this week.
"I've seen very little of Mbappe, I know he's 18, a very good player, but for the moment he's a Monaco player. I don't know why people say he was born to play for Madrid. ... I'll tell you if he was born to play for Madrid or not!"
Even though he originally played down any move for Mbappe, the Madrid chairman quickly assured fans that monitoring of the player was still in process, with head coach Zinedine Zidane the main pursuer of interest.
"I am sure he will be one of the greats and we are following him. Zidane's liked him a lot for a while, but it's not true we were close to signing him [a few years ago] because he still hadn't turned 16."
