Pele: Cristiano is the best in the world
Thuesday, 20 June 2017It has long been debated as to who the best player in the world is at the moment and over the past few years, but the Brazilian legend is in no doubt as to who deserves that mantle...
World Cup winner and footballing legend Pele has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo is definitely the best player in the world.
The Real Madrid superstar has been in sensational form over the past year and has won the European Championships with Portugal and the Spanish Primera Division and Champions League at club level with Los Blancos. Throughout his career, he has been involved in a professional feud with Barcelona's Lionel Messi with the duo having won the last nine Ballon d'Or titles between them, but Pele thinks that it is CR7 who is the greatest on the planet.
"I think today there’s no doubt the best player, the best scorer, the best forward, is Cristiano Ronaldo" the 76-year-old recently told Spanish newspaper, AS.
A couple of years ago Pele was actually tasked with presenting the Ballon d'Or award and as usual the two main contenders were Ronaldo and Messi, and it seems that he was delighted with the final result having presented the former with the title.
"Two years ago I gave the [Ballon d'Or] trophy to him and it was an honour for me"
