Ronaldo reacts to Portugal draw
Monday, 19 June 2017A last-minute goal from Hector Moreno yesterday gave Mexico a dramatic 2-2 draw against the Seleccao and the Portuguese captain has responded with a defiant post-match interview...
Fernando Santos' Portugal side started their Confederations Cup campaign yesterday with a stumble as they were forced to settle for the draw thanks to a 90th minute equaliser from Hector Moreno for Mexico.
Despite a long and arduous club season with Real Madrid, it was thought that Cristiano Ronaldo would have been perhaps given a rest for a few matches at international duty, but ever the professional he started the World Cup Qualifier against Latvia last Friday and started the match against the Central American nation on Sunday. Speaking to the media after the draw, he expressed disappointment but remained positive about Portugal's chances.
“It was not the result we wanted. The team had almost won and we suffered in the last minute, but this is football.
“We still believe in qualification, we have great possibilities, because there are still two games left."
CR7 is still hopeful of leading his side to qualification from the group, however, and quickly turned his attentions to the next fiixture against Russia on Wednesday which will probably be a must-win for Portugal if they still harbour hopes of topping Group A.
“We are calm and we have to think about the next game.
“We have to win, because if we win the next game we will be one step away from qualifying.”
