Mendieta isn't worried about Ronaldo
Friday, 14 July 2017The 32-year-old is currently not with the Real Madrid squad after being given an extended break after the Confederations Cup, but speculation continues to mount that he could be leaving the club in the transfer window after becoming disillusioned with life in the Spanish capital even if no bid has been made as of yet...
Former Spain and Valencia legend Gaizka Mendieta has insisted that he never had any real worries that Cristiano Ronaldo would leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
CR7 is currently under investigation by the Spanish authorities for alleged unpaid tax payments between 2011 and 2014, and the subsequent media scrutiny that has came with this has put a lot of pressure on the Ballon d'Or winner and his family, who recently gained two new members as he announced he had became a father to twins through a surrogate mother.
The Portuguese has reportedly told Los Blancos he wishes to leave, but Mendieta thinks Real Madrid and Ronaldo are made for each other and that he never really expected the player to make a transfer.
"I think he's very well settled in Madrid. He knows the team, the club, the city and himself, they're really accommodated to each other," he claimed at the recent Star Sixes football tournament in the UK.
"The team really suits his style of football nowadays [with] the number of goals he's scoring each season.
"I wasn't worried about that at all."
It does seem that everyone has an opinion on whether Ronaldo will stay or go, but the Spaniard knows more than most about transfer sagas having been involved in a highly-publicised move from Valencia to Lazio back in 2001.
