English giants set to swoop for Ronaldo?
Thursday, 13 July 2017Over the past year, the Ballon d'Or has enjoyed massive success having claimed the European Championships with Portugal and the Liga and Champions League titles with Real Madrid, but speculation has been rife over the summer that he may make the move away from Spain after becoming increasingly frustrated and unhappy with the media...
With Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Real Madrid uncertain, Chelsea have stepped up their pursuit of the Portuguese superstar, according to The Sun.
After Los Blancos claimed the Champions League back in May and the celebrations began to fizzle out, Ronaldo joined up with the Portugal squad for the Confederations Cup and it was there that stories began to mount that he wanted to leave the Spanish capital, with his decision apparently 'not reversible.'
Since then, no concrete bid has been made for his services, but much to the worry of Real Madrid fans, no confirmation has came from the club that he will not be leaving either.
Numerous clubs have been linked with a move for CR7, with Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and indeed sides in Major League Soccer in the United States reportedly registering an interest. The former two seemed the most likely destinations, but another suitor has came out of nowhere with a potential bid and that suitor is Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich.
The story has apparently risen from speculation that Abramovich is desperate to make a big-money signing this summer in order to convince his manager, Antonio Conte, to stay in London.
The Italian head coach is reportedly furious at the lack of transfer activity at Stamford Bridge over the summer and is considering his options before the start of the season.
Signing Ronaldo would certainly mean business for Chelsea and it could potentially mean Eden Hazard moving in the other direction as part of the deal, but at the moment there is no bid or even an incling from the 32-year-old that he would be interested in a move, having continuously spoke of his love for Manchester United.
