Last year, Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time under the tenure of Arsene Wenger and the French head coach of the Gunners is set to splash the cash this summer to get his outfit back to the big time next season.

The veteran manager is reportedly keen on two of his compatriots to star up front as a new world-class centre-forward, and these two players are Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon and Kylian Mbappe of AS Monaco.

The former scored 37 goals last campaign, while Mbappe fired the Monte Carlo outfit to the Ligue 1 title as well as the Champions League semi-final stage where they were eventually eliminated by Juventus. Wenger has never been known to splash the cash so it was assumed that it would be one out of these two players to be targeted, but we could indeed see the duo link-up for Arsenal in what would be a potentially devastating strikeforce.

At the moment, Lacazette looks the more likely to make the move and would cost significantly less than his 18-year-old counterpart. Mbappe has been linked with some of Europe's top clubs this summer and Monaco would demand at least £100 million as a transfer fee which although would be possible for Arsenal, would be more than double their biggest transfer fee paid which stands at £42 million for Mesut Ozil.

However, Wenger and the Monaco starlet reportedly have a 'special relationship' with one of Mbappe's close relatives recently calling the Arsenal boss 'a great man' so the London club could use this to their advantage.

Lacazette has been a target for years for the Gunners, so it is possible we could see these two talented Frenchmen link-up next campaign.
